Laughing Gas Sedation

Having anxiety regarding your dental visits is common. Millions of Americans report some level of anxiety when it comes to dental visits and treatment. Some patients can remember an unpleasant experience in the past, while others cannot pinpoint exactly why they fear their trips to the dentist. Regardless of the reasons for dental anxiety, it can make getting the care you need difficult and as a result, your oral health and overall health may suffer.

At Mark Tickle, DMD Family and Implant Dentistry, we offer a solution for patients who would like a more relaxing dental experience.

Sedation Dentistry with Laughing Gas

Laughing Gas, also called laughing gas, is a sweet-smelling analgesic gas that we administer through a small nose mask. We blend Laughing Gase with oxygen during treatment and can easily control the levels administered with a lever, ensuring proper sedation throughout your appointment.

Because laughing gas is inhaled, it takes effect quickly and allows you to receive dental treatment in a relaxed state.

Laughing gas also leaves your system quickly, making it possible for you to drive home after your appointment and resume your normal activities.

Benefits of Laughing Gas

When patients have dental anxiety, they often have more difficulty getting and staying numb during treatment because of higher levels of adrenaline and cortisol – two stress hormones. By addressing the patient’s level of stress and helping them relax, they can enjoy the full benefits of dental anesthetic and experience pain-free dentistry.

Having a strong gag reflex can make dental care difficult, especially when working toward the back of your mouth where gagging is triggered. By helping patients relax for treatment, the gag reflex is reduced or eliminated. When administering Laughing Gas, you are encouraged to breathe through your nose, further reducing the urge to gag. This allows many patients to have a better overall experience in the dental chair.

Safety of Laughing Gas

Because Laughing Gas is a mild sedative, it is safe for most patients. As with all dental treatment, we will collect your medical history before beginning any treatment.

Laughing Gas is so safe that we can even use it to help children have a more comfortable, relaxing experience in the dental chair.

We communicate throughout your appointment to ensure that we achieve the proper level of sedation dentistry to provide you with greater comfort and the ability to have the dental care you need to keep your smile healthy and beautiful.
